The Hands of Stars
Poems by Daniel Joseph Polikoff
Conflux Press, 2008

The Hands of Stars begins with the birth of the author’s son, Hyden, and traces the course of the poet’s imaginative life through seasons of innocence, sorrow, and great expectation.
Brushstroke
The heather on the hillside—how wholly
it covers the ground with glory!
As if that cataract of mauve
were the breaking of the earth’s heart
into song.

What if I could spill sense
just so
passionately
from the slim branch
I am holding in my hand?
